Day 2 Luke 2

Today we see that the virgin birth is fulfilled (2:1-7) This passage teaches Jesus of heaven, the Son of God, was miraculously born through Mary without the intervention of man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit of God so that Jesus Christ could literally be said to be the Son of God on earth. We already know that He was and forever will be the Son of God in heaven, before He was born to Mary. Being human it is almost inconceivable to think that there was never a time when Jesus was not and there never will be a time when He ceases to be. He is the eternal, preexistent Son of God (John 8:58, 17:5). Because of this, a very special divine arrangement was required for Him to enter into humanity: the miracle of the virgin birth of Christ. God allowed the eternal Son of God to be implanted in the temporal womb of Mary. And she carried the seed of the eternal Son of God for a nine-month term, until He was born into human flesh. In verses 41-51 we see His growth and development and that it did not mean imperfection at any stage of His life, He did not grow from error to truth or out of a greater deficiency to a lesser deficiency. He was perfect at every stage of His life, transitioning from stage to stage without imperfection. The incarnation would be meaningless had Jesus not been subject to all of the ordinary conditions of human development just as we are. In 2:16 Jesus is referred to as “the Babe” in 2:27 and 40 He is called “the Child”, in 2:43 He is called “the Boy.” And in 2:48 He is called “Son.” These are terms of graduated growth, from a babe to a son of the law, what is known as the bar mitzvah.
