God gave Joshua a commission and if Joshua wanted to be successful, he needed to meditate on (repeatedly read and recite) the words of God constantly and continually, follow them exclusively, and accept them totally (PS 1:1-3). Obedience begins with the relentless quest to know and take to heart God’s word. Throughout his life, Joshua heeded what God told him in this divine consultation. We see this in 23:6 where it is written: “Therefore be very courageous to keep and do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, lest you turn aside from it to the right hand or the left”.

Joshua 1:8 provides valuable guidance for spiritual renewal and success. Here's the verse for context:

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

Renewal in this verse can be found through several key practices:

  1. Engagement with Scripture: Renewal begins with a deep and continuous engagement with God's Word. By keeping the Book of the Law (the Scriptures) on our lips, we are reminded to speak, think, and live according to God's teachings.
  2. Meditation: Meditating on scripture day and night means reflecting on God's Word consistently and allowing it to penetrate our hearts and minds. This practice brings spiritual renewal by aligning our thoughts and actions with God's will.
  3. Obedience: Being careful to do according to all that is written in Scripture involves applying God's Word to our daily lives. Obedience to God's commands leads to personal transformation and renewal.
  4. Prosperity and Success: The promise of making our way prosperous and having good success highlights the positive outcomes of living according to God's Word. Renewal brings about spiritual growth, wisdom, and a fulfilling life.

By following the guidance in Joshua 1:8, we can experience ongoing renewal through consistent engagement with Scripture, meditation, obedience, and the resulting blessings of prosperity and success.

Stay strong and be blessed.
