and Direction of the Community?

Defining our Mission

How important is it for us to be an authentic disciple –

spiritual mentor?

● What is a disciple?

In the Bible, the word for disciple literally means "pupil" or "learner". When applied to the early Christians, it cam to mean someone who declared a personal allegiance to the teachings and person of Jesus. Today, the life of a disciple revolves around Jesus.

From the book "No Man Left Behind" by Patrick Morley, David Delk and Brett Clemmer, they suggest three conditions, if met, qualify a person to be counted as a disciple.

First, a disciple is called to walk with Christ; they profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Second, a disciple is equipped to live like Christ; they are engaged in a process of spiritual growth and transformation.

Third, a disciple is sent to work for Christ; the serve the Lord.

Working Definitions

A disciple/spiritual mentor is someone who has the heart to disciple another person within the context of a relational environment.

Discipleship is the process God uses to conform us into the likeness of His Son. Our response to the  Holy Spirit’s convicting and convincing voice is our gift back to a loving Father.

● What did Jesus say the central mission of the church was? Matthew 28:19-20 - 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Let’s Go Make Disciples!

There is a Progressive Nature to Discipleship

● Matthew 4:18-22 – Consider the call

Luke 5:10-11 – Commit to Jesus as your Savior and Lord

John 21:19 – Contemplate the commitment

One of the best definitions of the word disciple? Matt. 4:19

Come, Follow Me – The Head - come and see period

And I will make you – The Heart –commitment to the call

Fishers of men – The Hands - you are a spiritual mentor
